Lewis Dot Lab

Type a compound by formula or name and watch its Lewis structure build, one bond and electron at a time. Then read off its geometry, bond angle and polarity, or switch to 3D and orbit around it.

Green lines are shared pairs (bonds). Loose dots are lone pairs. Small badges show formal charge. Geometry is predicted with VSEPR theory; for molecules with several centers it describes the most-connected atom. In 3D, glowing lobes are lone pairs and every bond angle comes from VSEPR, so the model is idealized rather than measured.
